Berfikir macam rocket scientist?
Masa jumpa buku ni, tengok list praise for this book. Ada nama Susan Cain, Adam Grant, Daniel H. Pink, Seth Godin dan Julain Guthrie. Nama – nama yang besar. First time tahu nama Ozan Varol ni.
Ozan Varol dalam buku dia bertajuk Think Like A Rocket Scientist : Simple Strategies You Can Use To Make Giant Leaps In Work and Life mengupas tentang cara berfikir.
“When you learn how to think like a rocket scientist, you won’t just change the way you view the world. You’ll be empowered to change the world itself.”
Confirm ke?
“When we face uncertainty, we often manufacture excuses for not getting started. I’m not qualified. I don’t feel ready. I don’t have the right contacts. I don’t have enough time. We don’t start walking until we find an approach that’s guaranteed to work (and preferably one that comes with job satisfaction and a six-figure salary).
Start walking by Ozan Varol
- Start walking before you see a clear path.
- Start walking even though there will be stuck wheels, broken drills, and exploding oxygen tanks ahead.
- Start walking because you can learn to walk backward if your wheel gets stuck or you can use duct tape to block catastrophe.
- Start walking, and as you become accustomed to walking, watch your fear of dark places disappear.
- Start walking because once you get going, you will keep going.
- Start walking because your small steps will eventually become giant leaps.
- Start walking and if it helps, bring a bag of peanuts with you for good luck.
- Start walking, not because it’s easy, but because it’s hard.
- Start walking because it’s the only way forward.
Tentang knowledge
“Knowledge shapes. Knowledge informs. It creates frameworks, labels, categories, and lenses through which we view the world. But if we’re not careful, they can also distort our vision.”
“When necessary, we must unlearn what we know and start over.”
“Knowledge is good. But knowledge should inform, not constrain. Knowledge should enlighten, not obscure.”
Warren Buffett ada cakap,
“The five most dangerous words in business are ‘Everybody else is doing it.’”
“This monkey see, monkey do approach creates a race to the exceedingly crowded center – even though there’s far less competition on the edges.”
- ‘Semua orang buat’ tak semestinya kita pun kena buat. Hati – hati bila asyik ikut orang.
- Monkey see, monkey do. Tapis. Jangan main sedut je.
Tentang strategy dan tactics
A strategy is a plan for achieving an objective.
Tactics are the actions you take to implement the strategy.
“We often lose sight of the strategy, fixate on the tactics and the tools, and become dependent on them.”
“To find the strategy, ask yourself, what problem is this tactic here to solve? This question requires abandoning the what and the how and focusing on the why.”
Kebanyakkan orang akan sibuk dengan taktik. Apa taktik nak pakai? Nak buat apa? Tapi mereka terlepas pandang benda yang penting. Apa strategi nak guna? Kenapa masalah ni muncul?
Bila kita faham tentang strategi, kita akan nampak taktik apa nak guna.
“When people are looking for the ‘right answer’, they are almost always asking tactical questions. By focusing on the strategy, this allows you to be much more malleable with the tactics.”
Mula berfikir tentang strategi. It will help a lot.
Mulakan melangkah walaupun masa depan masih samar – samar. Kalau tunggu confirm jadi baru nak bergerak, confirm memang tak bergerak – gerak.
Gerak dan improve.
Terima kasih Ozan Varol sebab kongsikan cara macam mana seorang scientist berfikir.
